Palers' base-camp for Procol in Lewisham 2003

Where to stay / How to book

Experience shows that all the fans have a good time if we stay in the same hotel ... 'Beyond the Pale' started organising this for fans before Redhill 1997, and followed this with Guildford 1998, Guildford 2000, Kristiansand 2001, Manchester 2001, and Croydon 2002

The Lewisham gig is not near anywhere very nice to stay, and hotel prices look high even in neighbouring boroughs. BtP has decided to recommend a known quantity, the Jury's Inn in Croydon once again, where Procol fans had such a good stay in May 2002

It's about ten miles from the Lewisham / Catford gig, with 'buses, trains and of course taxis all available for the journey. Shared taxis will bring the price right down, and the hotel itself is very nicely-priced for excellent accommodation. Jury's is a new three-star hotel: a Palers' picture guide to Croydon may be found here

Jury's Inn is on Wellesley Road, Croydon, CRO 9XY [map]: it offers the Arches Restaurant for breakfast and dinner, an Inn Pub for drinks and snack lunches, and Il Barista all-day Coffee Bar for Palers to congregate and relax in. For those who fancy shopping, the famous and extensive Whitgift Centre is just across the road.

By arrangement, the hotel bar will be open to residents until 2.30 the night of the Procol Harum gig.

People flying in to the UK will find Jury's very convenient to Gatwick Airport, and it is well-served by trains for those going on to Milton Keynes the following morning

The prices:
'Beyond the Pale' has reserved a block of Jury's hotel rooms, each with a free breakfast, at the discount price of 53 pounds per room (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and 73 pounds per room (Monday to Thursday). All Jury's rooms are family-sized and can accommodate two adults and two children, or three adults, at the prices quoted above. All Jury's rooms have en-suite bath or shower : they have air-conditioning, satellite TV, modem line, hairdryer, and tea/coffee facilities; Jury's can cater, on request, for disabled guests. There is one free breakfast per room, and additional breakfasts are 8 pounds 50 apiece.
