Procol Harum / Palers' Band in Denmark

DR RadioUnderholdningsOrkestrets koncert med Procol Harum som hovednavn, er ved at udvikle sig til en international begivenhed.

Procol Harum-fans fra hele verden er i fuld gang med at organisere en rejse til Lejre for at overvære begge koncerterne med DR RadioUnderholdningsOrkestret og Procol Harum d. 19. og 20. august i Ledreborg Slotspark. De udenlandske fans kommer fra 20 forskellige nationer - sågar helt fra Australien og USA.

Efter planen vil de ivrige fans i forbindelse med DR Slotskoncerter afholde et såkaldt ”Paler-convention”. Her samles et hold af fritidsmusikere, alle sammen dedikerede Procol Harum-fans, for at øve og spille sammen. Disse conventions har tidligere været afholdt i Manchester, Guildford, Los Angeles og Kristianssand. Med Procol Harums koncert i Lejre blev det naturligt at lægge næste convention i den lille stationsby på Sjælland, så allerede tre dage før DR Slotskoncerter på Ledreborg, strømmer de trofaste ”Palers” til Lejre og stemmer instrumenterne i det lokale forsamlingshus. Materialet, der bliver spillet, består selvfølgelig udelukkende af Procol Harum-sange, og det er tidligere blevet gjort med så stor autoritet, at fritidsbandet gennem årene har udgivet stribevis af CD’er med skiftende band-medlemmer.

Det, der især trækker de udenlandske fans til Ledreborg, er den enestående mulighed for her at opleve Procol Harum i en af de stort anlagte symfoniske koncerter, som gruppen kun har spillet få gange tidligere – og aldrig før i Skandinavien. Ved DR Slotskoncerter 2006 vil et tusindtalligt publikum kunne opleve klassikere som "A Whiter Shade of Pale", "Conquistador" og "A Salty Dog" i de stort orkestrerede versioner, som tilbage i 1972 skrev gruppen ind i rock-historien med det multi-sælgende album "Live In Concert With the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra".

The Danish Radio Promenade concerts with top of the bill Procol Harum is developing into an international event. 

Procol Harum fans from all over the world are well under way organising a trip to Lejre to attend both Procol Harum concerts with the DR Promenade Orchestra on August 19 and 20 at Ledreborg Castle. The foreign fans are coming from twenty different nations – even Australia and the USA.

According to plans the eager fans will hold a Palers' Convention in connection with the Castle-concerts. A team of spare-time musicians, all dedicated Procol Harum fans, will gather to rehearse and play together. These conventions have previously been held in Manchester, at Guildford, in Los Angeles and at Kristiansand. With Procol Harum playing in Lejre it became natural to hold the next convention in the small town in Sjælland, so – three days before the concerts in Ledreborg – loyal Palers will pour to Lejre, and strike up the instruments in the local culture-house. The material being played will of course consist exclusively of Procol Harum songs, which have hitherto been done with such authority that the spare-time band over the years has released several CDs with changing band-members.

What especially attracts the foreign fans to Ledreborg is the unique opportunity to see Procol Harum perform one of their grand symphonic concerts, only done a few times before, and never before in Scandinavia. At the DR Castle-concerts 2006 a crowd numbering thousands will be treated to classics like A Whiter Shade of Pale, Conquistador and A Salty Dog performed in orchestrated versions, just like in 1972 when Procol Harum made rock-history with the multi-selling album Live in Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
