'Too Many Poets'

It All Came Undone (Tommy)

Key to authors' pseudonyms

It all came undone
All that was planned
It was known to be fun
But definitely damned

The time it seemed right
But most definitely was wrong
Each moment seemed short
But ultimately long

The options were weighed
The future forecast
The tasks they were mapped
And started at last

The vision was obvious
Success was assured
Despite all the talk
Nothing was heard

Despite the best efforts
It all came untied
Nothing was gained
The energy died

The plans had been layered
The structure was there
The timing was perfect
But no one who cared

The end seemed so perfect
Amazement assured
When the dust had all settled
It all seemed absurd

Our hopes were so high
No stone left unturned
But when it was finished
What had we learned?
