'Too Many Poets'

Mr Bartholomew’s Dream (Charles David)

Chris Copping's mp3 sketch here

Key to authors' pseudonyms

The taxman’s threatening letter
Clutched in a tight fisted hand
Demanding a much bigger payment
For reasons he can’t understand.

The rain was descending with vigour
The outlook was humid and grey
As he made his way into the office
To start one more long busy day

Rooftops of white melted chocolate
Olives of purple and green
Covered the hills like a carpet
In Mr Bartholomew’s dream.

His routine was tuned to perfection
He steadily worked through ‘til five
Through pain that was caused by arthritis
While his mind did in fantasies thrive.

The pasture was covered with flowers
Mountaintops still held some snow
A cottage so warm and inviting
Where Bartholomew one day would go.

Rooftops of white melted chocolate
Olives of purple and green
Covered the hills like a carpet
In Mr Bartholomew’s dream.
