James Weir on David Bedford, in Contemporary Composers, edited by Bran Morton & Pamela Collins (St James Press, Chicago & London, 1992)
[there are] ... a number of works from the early 1970s, in which Bedford combines amplified rock instrumentation with acoustic instruments. Such experiments were to become a music industry joke within a very few years, but for a time it was very fashionable to pit rock bands against symphony orchestras (Deep Purple, Procol Harum) but Bedford's work in this direction was more than an imaginative extension of a banal marketing ploy.
