Portraits of Barrie

Barrie lounges on a bed (neither lipsticked nor unmade … but note the pink discolouration!). Candlewick is still not out of fashion.

The spoon in the saucer suggests a sweet tooth; the uninhabited camera-case is not the same one we glimpse in the street scenes.

Pam doesn't remember the furnishings in this sequence, but the twin beds made her think of the room shared by Barrie and his brother Richard.

A carefully-considered, moody pose highlighting the hairstyles of both participants in this picture! The large painting of the woman – such things were hugely popular for a while – was surely not generally balanced on the television cabinet in this way!

Is Barrie really looking at her? Or is he rather deliberately closing his eyes to her? We shall never know.

Hard to tell if they are striped trousers, or boldly-ribbed cords: same clothing as in the bedroom shot above. The jacket may be seen in several pictures in the Pam Quinn scrapbook, though it's not always being worn by the same person! (RC)

Frans Steensma feels that the sequence from which these pictures come was '… probably made at Barrie's house in Derby Road, Ponders End.' (more from Frans here)
