'Bark Staving Ronkers'

John Bobin's book about the Southend Scene

Bark Staving Ronkers, by Procol fan John Bobin, is to be published in the early part of 2006. Here is the publisher's blurb:

'Feeling like music today sounds more than a little prefab? Ever wonder what it must have been like in the real glory days of rock and roll in the sixties? Well, dust off your Beatle boots and go on the road with 60s’ bass guitarist John Bobin and experience the spark and excitement of rock and roll, in the pulse-pounding music memoir, Bark Staving Ronkers.

'Music was always in Bobin’s blood. From the time he was twelve he was playing guitar, buying albums and dreaming of fame and glory. In prose as cheerfully infectious as a pop melody, Bobin gives you a you-are-there guided tour through the world of music, from England to Germany to Italy, as he makes his mark in hard-driving rock and roll to the new creative influence of psychedelic sounds.

'From lucky breaks to missed opportunities, Bobin lovingly recounts the many musical roads his life took, and all the myriad people and places who helped him along the way, complete with behind-the-scenes look at the recording, radio and television industry.  But Bobin’s life wasn’t always a Cinderella story, and his candid clear-eyed look at the perils and pitfalls of fame – including the occasional disastrous tour – give scope and breadth to an absolutely engrossing tale. Profits from the sale of the book go to cancer research.'

John kindly offered a copy of the forthcoming volume for the BtP Christmas competition : listen to his music on the Palers' Project albums here
