Procol Harum and Yodeling

Presumably a Brooker wind-up?

Bart Plantenga, who has published a highly-rated treatise on yodeling (it includes a pop and rock chapter as well) draws our attention to this amusing snippet in the Dutch magazine Veronica, which he kindly translates into English.

Veronica 4.11.72

Yodeling with Procol Harum
The new Procol Harum LP will include a lot of Swiss and Tirolian sounds. But you will have to wait another month or two before the LP is released and before you can begin to yodel along with it. Harum's brain, Keith Reid, is already thinking of future plans which include a possible rock opera.

Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo
The Secret History of Yodeling Around the World

Order it from Amazon UK (where the title is incorrectly quoted)

or from Amazon USA (where they have it right)

Rock's yodelers include Focus, Stackbridge, Mason Williams, Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament, Fugees, De La Soul, Bill Haley, Bob Dylan, B. Springsteen [live], Jewel, Jerry Lee Lewis, New Riders of Purple Sage, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, James Brown and Brian Setzer ... and that's without considering the records that have used yodeling samples ...

'A splendid adventure down obscure musical pathways. Having nailed exactly what yodeling is, Plantenga's style is loveable in its descriptive ambition.' (The Guardian newspaper)
