A Shade

Ross Taylor

Ross Taylor writes ...
Roland, this is a poem about BJ Wilson I wrote in the Spring using words from Procol Harum titles, sort of in response to your BJ interview with Kenny White. I just got it out partly in response to Richard Beck and others' flurry on BJ ....

  A SHADE

pilgrim's broken outside the gates
rightly softly forgetting something
the devil a salty memorial truth
piggy London claw dead

gone small in box again
power song of the human lamp
without a captain all the time
as strong as days are here and more

Repent nothing juicy tale
"too much fool's fence for me
my choice grand wreck liquorice pale
final shine beyond whisky
Piper bringing kindness came
wish me simple rambling dream"

If you can use it for BtP that would be great, but it might cause head-scratching because it's so fragmented and downbeat: it may not be appropriate for a site that celebrates life? I guess the interview put me in mind of other casualties of changing times. He was a talented one.

Thanks, Ross. BtP feels sure we can trust anyone who loved and admired BJ to listen to it in the spirit in which it was made.
