Hermes

Pandora's Box : Finnish words by Hector

Listen to a brief mp3 sample of this song, performed live by Pepe in 1998, by clicking here

Taas viestinviejää tarvitaan.

The messenger is needed once again

Laittaudun jo vartoomaan.

I'm getting prepared and am waiting

Pegasus vain valjaisiin

Pegasus is harnessed

ja Hermes suitsiin kultaisiin.

And Hermes takes the golden bridle

Ne tunnustuksen vieköön:

They bring the confession to you

sut vielä saavutan.

  I will reach you someday

Sun piilos missä liekään,

  Wherever your hideaway is

sua kaukaa kurkoitan.

I'm reaching to you from afar

Niin vanhaan nahkahaarniskaan

So I'll cram into the old leather armour

ahtaudun, kun vihjeen saan.

When I get a hint

Mä luokses kiidän paljain päin

I'm coming to you bareheaded

ja kuriirit käy edelläin.

and the couriers precede me

Ne tunnustuksen vieköön:

They bring the confession to you

sut vielä saavutan.

  I will reach you someday

Sun piilos missä liekään,

  Wherever your hideaway is

sua kaukaa kurkoitan.

I'm reaching to you from afar

Mun kylmä on ja nukuttaa.

I'm cold and sleepy

Tän ruumiin voisin hukuttaa

I could drown this body

mä Suomenlahteen tosta vaan.

In the Gulf of Finland just like that

Mut Hermes saapuu muassaan

But Hermes arrives with

tuo vastaus ja silloin

  The answer and then

mä nousen alhostain.

I rise from my deep despair

Nyt tiedän mistä milloin

Now I know from where and when

sinut löydän rakkaimpain.

I can find you my darling

Here's the Finnish version ... all possible errors are my fault. I've listened to a live version performed by Pepe Willberg in late 1998 to transcribe the lyrics. Hermes (Pandora's Box) starts off as the original but slowly diverges to a story of a guy missing his woman. He uses Hermes to send his message to the girl and just as he is about to drown himself in the Gulf of Finland (= Suomenlahti) Hermes brings her reply. A happy ending!

Thanks, Rainer Frilund
