Silver Town

Words by Keith Reid, outside Procol Harum

Silver Town (Keith Reid / Steve Booker)

Released August 2008 on the album The Common Thread by The Keith Reid Project

This town’s been blown away
Lord these are desperate times
The young men have all gone away
Now it’s just the sound of our goodbyes
We’ve all seen better days
The train passed us by
A bill went down in Washington
That blew us out of the sky
All the lights are burning down
   All over Silver Town
And though the money’s all run out
There’s a wealth of folk in Silver Town

There’s a church by the railway line
The wheels turn but the faith’s run dry
And the bells ring out of time
Has the Lord passed us by?
This town’s been thrown away
Been bought and sold
When they turned up the heat in Washington
They left us out in the cold
All the lights are burning down
   All over Silver Town
And though the money’s all run out
There’s a wealth of folk in Silver Town

We built this town from a grain of sand
Far away from the reach of Washington
Now they say they need the land
And bite the hand that feeds the greed of Washington
And all the lights are burning down
   All over Silver Town
And though the money’s all run out
There’s a wealth of folk in Silver Town
All the lights are burning down
      All over Silver Town
And though the money’s all run out
There’s a wealth of folk in Silver Town
