'Ball quits Procol to join Baldry'

Sounds (mid-1972)

Dave Ball, guitarist with Procol Harum for the past one-and-a-half years, left the band last week to join the John Baldry band. He débuts with Baldry at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, this Saturday.

'The reason I left Procol was purely musical,' Dave told Sounds on Monday, 'I was just playing Gary's songs and although they were good it didn't offer that much scope for a guitarist.'

'I've always admired Baldry and his music, especially the Hoochie Coochie Man days, and I'm going to be able to get back to the style I was playing before Procol Harum. '

Ball left Harum in the middle of recording a new album and the last live appearance he made with the band was in St Louis on July 23rd. After the concert at QE2 Hall the Baldry Band start work on a new album.
