Christmas Conundrums 2005

Make your choice from our fab prizes ...

Each year at Christmas, following the Scandinavian custom, BtP sets twelve days of Procol puzzles which great numbers of Palers follow with much interest and merriment ... at the end of the trail is a one-word answer, which you send in by e-mail to the webmasters, to win one (or more?) of the prizes below. The puzzles start on Christmas Day and they get easier and easier year by year, while the prizes get more and more munificent.

This year's fine freebies are, we think you'll agree, every bit as splendid as 1997's or 1998's or 1999's or 2000's or 2001's or 2002's or 2003's or 2004's: this is largely thanks to the generosity of our very kind friends and sponsors.

A

A copy of the forthcoming, third Palers' Project 2CD, as yet untitled ... this prize will be sent out as soon as it's ready, some time in Spring, all being well.

B A Licorice [sic] John Death CD on the Friday label, Ain't Nothing to Get Excited About, signed by Gary Brooker, Robin Trower and Chris Copping who play on it, and Paramounts drummer Mick Brownlee, who doesn't!
C A copy of the new book, Bark Staving Ronkers, about the Southend music scene, written by Paler John Bobin (thanks, John) ... this prize will be sent out as soon as it's ready.
D

A complete set of the Friday Procoloid CD re-releases: Grand Hotel, Exotic Birds and Fruit, Procol's Ninth, Something Magic, One More Time, Within our House, Ain't Nothing to Get Excited About (thanks, Joe)

E Two Geoff Whitehorn solo CDs, Geoff Who 2002 and Big in Gravesend (thanks, John)
F

A full-colour programme from the Gary Brooker Ensemble's tsunami-relief gig this year, with illustrated Procol / Brooker discography and fresh interviews with Brooker, Pegg, Spinetti, Mead and Fairweather Low (we did have fully-signed copies for the Christmas puzzle prizes, but another voluntary helper sold them to the general public at the gig!)

G

A copy of the Palers' Project 2CD of Procol compositions, From Shadow to Shadow, signed on the front cover by Robin Trower (thanks, Dave)

H A year's free 'your.name@procolharum.com' e-mail address
I A CD, Mobile, of great jazz standards sung by Fran 'Milk of Human Kindness' Glendining (see here) (thanks, Franny)
J Another complete set of the Friday Procoloid CD re-releases: Grand Hotel, Exotic Birds and Fruit, Procol's Ninth, Something Magic, One More Time, Within our House, Ain't Nothing to Get Excited About (thanks, Joe)
K A Broken Barricades CD on the Gazza label, signed by Gary Brooker, Robin Trower, and Chris Copping who play on it, and Paramounts drummer Mick Brownlee, who doesn't!
L

Full colour A Salty Dog tee-shirts: three different-coloured shirts (blue, grey and sand) in size medium, obversely endorsed with various tour information (thanks, John)

Competitors should rank the above prizes in the order they favour them, and send in their preference – all twelve letters, please! – with the solution to the puzzles. The message will look something like :
"Prize preferences: ACGKIHFLEBDJ"

We shall allot the first three prizes on a beat-the-clock basis, with the earliest correct response earning its first choice of prize; after that all subsequent correct entries received in the next 24 hours will be placed in the BtP Homburg and the remaining nine prize-winners will be drawn by a suitably Glamorous Assistant, Deo volente.

In the somewhat unlikely event of there being fewer than twelve winners, the first people to submit correct answers will get more than their fair share of the prizes!

The quiz starts on Christmas Day and runs through to Twelfth Night. This year the questions are again set by guest Paler John Annable; you can join in at any time, if you have a pencil and an internet connection! The answer at the end will be a single word, as in previous years.
